We're Still Here

Fall is in the air.  It has finally started raining.  It was so dry here that our little water retention pond nearly dried up.  We had a little waterfall overflowing our front gutter today.  I'm sure that there is probably one little leaf blocking the downspout and Ken is going to have to get out the ladder and take care of it.

I have a new calling at church and it's a biggie (for me).  I'm the Stake Music Chairman.  I'm where the buck stops as far as all musical things on the stake level.  I still have 3 other callings in my ward.  All music callings too.  Plus I've started back to work for Weight Watchers and have tons of training, most of which is finished as far as my trainer is concerned.  However, I still have lots of computer training.  I haven't even had time to get into my sewing room and work on my quilt blocks for the Block of the Month class I'm taking.  I'm a few months behind.  Bummer!

We have our Stake Conference next weekend.  I'm leading the stake choir during our Sunday session.  We had our first rehearsal yesterday.  There are only 2 - 2 hour rehearsals.  The one yesterday and another one next Saturday.  I've arranged for a special musical number at the Adult Session on Saturday night.  PLUS we have a visiting General Authority coming!! No pressure.

The worst part is I love to sing.  I'd much rather be IN the choir instead of leading it.  But it is great to lead people who love music too.  The sound of their voices as I conduct them is a great experience.

Our stake is gearing up for the Nativity Festival again.  I can't believe how much planning goes into it.  As the Stake Music Chairman, I'll be involved with the Christmas Concert.  I'm helping, not in charge completely because I just recently received this calling.  The previous Chairman had the music all planned and said that she would still do it.  I'm helping get instrumentalists to play during the public viewing of the creches in the cultural hall.  Each instrumentalist will play for 45 minutes.  They will include violins, piano, flute, and maybe cello.  I'm getting a narrator and have asked someone to write the narration.  I'm sure I'll be blogging more about that as it gets closer.

On another note, we've managed to find homes for about 3 dozen little goldfish to women Ken works with. We still have about 4 dozen of the little critters in the pond though. They got too cagey to catch. I've stopped feeding them as the water temperature is dropping into the 50s I'm sure. They go inactive during the winter. We'll have to see how the little ones survive this winter.

Life is busy, but good.  One the docket for this week is working 2 days for a few hours, visiting teaching Wednesday night, and feeding the missionaries on Friday.  I promised them homemade rolls and a pork roast with all the trimmings.  I haven't decided what to make for dessert yet.  Maybe my homemade chocolate ice cream made with coconut milk, cocoa powder, agave nectar and a pinch of salt.  Haven't made that for awhile and it's really good.  Low in PointsPlus value and no dairy or refined sugar. Just blend up the ingredients and throw it into my ice cream maker for 45 minutes or so.

Well that's it for now.  Just wanted to let our adoring (huh?) fans know that we are alive and well but a bit damp around the edges till next summer sometime! Haha.

Glad you found a minute to blog! I am an adoring fan!!! :)
I don't know how...but you and Brian seem to land callings that you enjoy based on your talents! I must need to gain a talent since I NEVER am called to anything I truly LOVE! :) I will say my current calling is close. I have an extremely strong testimony of visiting teaching.
Sounds like it will be a wonderful Stake Conference. You will be a wonderful music conductor!
We knew you would be happy to see Mitchell singing. He loves to sing! It is wonderful!
