Becky Update

Tomorrow marks my 4th week of being in South Carolina. Becky has made some significant progress since my arrival. She has gone from using crutches and wearing a heavy boot to no crutches and now has an ankle brace with lace up shoes. It is much easier for her to do things such as carry something while walking. Crutches make it very difficult to do even that. I've been busy doing laundry, changing sheets, cleaning, helping with cooking, loading and unloading the dishwasher and herding kids. I've also introduced Becky to the wonderful world of quilting. She has taken to it like a duck to water. We ventured out to the local quilt shop, "Stitches", a little while ago. She has already made a couple of little quilts and has some other projects planned. I've taken pictures while I've been here, but my IPad won't let me use the picture insert feature, apparently. I'll need to catch up on photos when I return home. We have scheduled my flight for Friday, August 10th. I'll need a few days rest to recover when I get home! I've loved being here though and being with Becky and Dustin and getting to know Becky's children better. They are cute kids and play together really well, for the most part. With temperatures in the mid to high 90s every day, they don't play outdoors. I've been walking in the neighborhood in the mornings when the temps are "only" in the high 70s and low 80s. The humidity is a killer too. I've become accustomed and acclimated to the weather in the Puget Sound these last 8 years. I've forgotten what hot and humid weather really is. I REALLY appreciate air conditioning here! I've been attending Weight Watcher meetings on Thursday's at 5:30. This group meets in the basement of a Baptist church. It is a fun and friendly group and I get a kick out of their southern accents. A couple of weeks ago, the topic was exercise. The leader commented that a person can lose weight without exercise but that if "you want to look good 'neck-ed' you need to exercise". It was a hoot! I'm also loving garden cucumbers and tomatoes. We can't grow tomatoes in Washington. The growing season is too short and it doesn't get hot enough. However, I'm told that IF we planted tomatoes in old tires, placed next to the south side of the house to catch reflected light, AND used chicken manure for fertilizer, it might work. So far we haven't been that ambitious. Well, that's about it for now. Talk to ya'all later. P.S. I've tried to use paragraphs, but it isn't working. So I'm sorry for the one long paragraph that won't give you a moment to breathe. I really do know how to write. Blame it on my IPad.

Glad to hear Becky is doing a little better! I feel for her with the crutches and all. I once broke both my ankles at the same time. :( No fun at all!!!
Tell her she is in our thoughts and prayers as she continues to recover.

I hope you post some of the pictures of the quilting projects you ladies undertook. I am dying to see your handy work!

Love you!
