Coyotes

I was coming home after dark last night, when a coyote darted across my driveway in front of the car.  It ran so fast that I didn't get a really good look at it.  It disappeared in the dark.  We hear them occasionally howling in the woods behind our house.  For those of you who don't know, we have 2.3 acres and there is quite a large area behind our house that is set aside as Native Growth Protection Area (NGPA).  It is a dense woods with lots of thorny blackberry bushes, Northern Redwood, Hemlock, and Alder trees.  We really feel like we live out in the wilderness when we hear them howl.  Last night was a good reminder of why we have always kept our cats indoors.  We are always seeing signs posted in our neighborhood about missing cats.  They become coyote snacks, I'm sure.

In Fernley we would see them in the streets of our neighborhood late at night. They are beautiful, but best admired from a distance! :)
Your preserve is beautiful! Hope to get up there to see it again before you move away.
