Our bounteous carrot crop

As many of you know, the Oehrig's once again tried gardening in Washington State. We have not been very successful in the past.  This year, trying the Square Foot Gardening method, suggested by Janie, we attempted it again.  Some of our crops did better than others.  We had lots of spinach and lettuce leaves for quite awhile.  The cilantro was great for the fresh salsa Ken made and we had (very) small beets.  The tomatoes didn't do too well, as they need more heat and sun than we generally get here.  The green beans were okay, but not too plentiful.  We had a few onions and some small amounts of brocolli.  But Ken just pulled up our carrots and I must say that considering the small space they had to grow in (12 sq inches), they did quite well.  He bought seed for the stubbby kind because of the limited depth of our elevated garden space.  Our garden is a far cry from the 50ft. by 50 ft. garden we had in Naperville, but it is nice to have some fresh things again.
